Launching with a musical ‘Spectacular’ on Monday 7 October, Port Phillip’s annual Seniors Festival is taking over the City from 7 to 20 October 2019. The ‘Spectacular’ features ‘The Dance of Life’ song cycle performed by Raelene Isbester, ‘AllSorts’ world musical performance group, and early-career performers from the Australian National Academy of Music. Rounding out the free Seniors Festival launch, DJ Fiona Scott-Norman will be spinning tunes from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s and Anna from Anna’s GoGo Academy will be on hand to refresh dance moves.

The comprehensive festival program also features comedy shows, exhibitions, fitness events, music performances, walks, and talks.

Well-known stand-up comedian Monica Dullard brings Fancy That! to the Port Melbourne Town Hall on Tuesday 8 October for two side-splitting shows, 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm and 7 pm to 8 pm. Tickets are $5 plus booking fee or $5 at the door, cash only.

There are also plenty of ‘After Dark’ options for those keen to venture out for a night on the town.

The Soul Groove takes over Temperance Hall on Saturday 19 October from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm. Fabulous soul music from the ’60s and ’70s will have residents shaking their tailfeathers and riding the soul train. Tickets are $10 and include a light supper. Residents can learn to move for ‘The Soul Groove’ free of charge on Friday 18 October at South Melbourne Community Centre from 3 pm to 4 pm. Bookings can be made via ASSIST.

With more than 60 events, many of which are free or low cost, there’s sure to be something for everyone – as long as you’re over 55!

Mayor Dick Gross said the Seniors Festival was a great opportunity to celebrate for members of the Port Phillip community.

“It’s important for the Council and our community to recognise the contribution residents over 55 have made, and continue to make. The Seniors Festival gets people out of the house, meeting new friends, trying new things, and most importantly, having fun!” Cr Gross said.

The Port Phillip Seniors Festival is part of the wider Victorian Seniors Festival, which includes more than 1000 free and low-cost events state-wide.
