Proactive And Preventative Treatments For Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a problem in the United States that impacts nearly 3.5 million people annually. At least 9,500 people a day will discover that they have some form of skin cancer. One of the best ways for people to avoid this problem is by taking a proactive stance against it. Preventative measures for eliminating skin cancer are simple to use and easy to perform.

Simple Protective Measures from UV Light

The UV light is a dangerous substance from the sun that usually causes skin cancer. This substance is dangerous because it contains radiation. The UV light is also a very deceptive material. It can bounce off various surfaces (such as snow or water) and impact a person’s skin. This light form has long-lasting effects that are able to alter the cells in the skin.

The Skin Cancer Foundation tells people to seek shade, avoid sun tanning and sunburn and to cover up as much as possible. These are simple steps for protecting the skin from the sun. Still, you would be amazed at how many people don’t perform these simple tasks to protect their skin.

The Power of Sunscreen

Sunscreen is one of the most common methods that people use to protect their skin. Sunscreen is a chemical mixture that contains organic and inorganic active ingredients. They work together to prevent the powerful effects of UV light from damaging the skin. Titanium oxide is the active ingredient that reflects UV light.

Titanium oxide is also referred to as zinc oxide. Dermatologists recommend that people use a sunscreen mixture with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. The higher the SPF rating, the better protection a person will have from UV light particles. An SPF sunscreen product with a rating of 98 can block out most UV light. However, there isn’t a 100% sun blocking formula. No sunscreen product can totally stop UV radiation.

Skin Evaluations and Dermatologists

Every person should visit a dermatologist at least once a year to have their skin checked out. This is important for detecting skin cancer. You can also examine yourself at least once a week to search for this problem.

Unusual skin growths or soars that do not disappear could be a sign of skin cancer. You should also check for rashes, irregular patches of skin or nodular looking growths on your dermis. These could all be indications of skin cancer. A dermatologist can help you to figure out if you have this condition.

Tanning Beds: Your Beauty isn’t Worth your Life

Tanning beds are not evil devices. They were created to make fair or light skin people darker. However, they are not people-friendly either. Remember, when you tan your skin, you are in a sense cooking it.

Cooked protein (our skin has this stuff in it) has a tendency to form cancerous substance. As a result, skin cancer usually happens with frequent tanners. Remember, tanning yourself once in a while probably won’t lead to cancer, but doing it on a consistent basis probably will.

Limit Time on the Beach

A beach is a fun place for people to experience. Millions of people travel to the beach every year. However, some people spend way too much time on the beaches. Sundoctors are of the best specialists who know that exposure to UV light and refracted sunlight from the sand can be hard on the skin. Just cover yourself up if you spend a lot of time on the beach.

Limit your Sun Intake

Skin cancer can be a problem. Still, you should not live in fear of the sun. Just take a common-sense approach and not spend too much time in UV light. Sunlight is good for everyone but not to the point where you are being overcooked or overexposed. Simply, limit your sun intake to reduce your chances of skin cancer in the future.
