The JOHN MONTESANTE DECTET is a QUALITY 10 x PIECE JAZZ BAND, that boasts SIX HORNS, a knockout RHYTHM SECTION and additional GUEST SINGERS – performing the COOLEST JAZZ ARRANGEMENTS in town.
Band Leader John Montesante started life as a Jazz Musician and has always worn two hats. The Dectet had its genesis in his stylish, horn-led John Montesante Quintet, (formed 1990), which has recorded and performed regularly since – at venues, events and festivals, and is lauded for its quality and versatility.
In 2013, he added an additional four horns and a guitarist to the core JMQ lineup, to breathe life to Montesante’s new dedicated arrangements. The band made a studio recording before performing the tunes live, starting at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, with three featured singers. Montesante continued working on new  instrumental and vocal arrangements – always expanding the repertoire.
While a large band, this Jazz Dectet is NOT a regular ‘Big Band’, or ‘Trad Band’, but performs JAZZ for those who savour undiluted virtuousity, outstanding soloists and big horn arrangements of standards and bebop. Don’t expect cabaret either! If you enjoy legendary tunes like Arabia, Shiny Stockings, Close Your Eyes, Stardust, You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To, Round Midnight, Here’s That Rainy Day, Falling In Love With Love and the songs of Mark Murphy – with horn features, then THIS is your bag!
Australia’s finest Jazz Singers perform with the John Montesante Dectet, and this evening will showcase the stellar talents of:
FEM BELLING – Aria nominated vibrant international Jazz vocalist
JOSH KYLE – Outstanding Jazz crooner, featured on ‘The Voice’ (2012)
OLIVIA CHINDAMO – Quality ‘scat singer’ and recent winner of James Morrison vocal scholarship.
This evening will feature Melbourne’s finest in the Jazz world, and is NOT to be missed!   BOOK NOW!
