Picnic in the Park and all the Jazz

Our Schools Jazz event is on at Yarra's Edge again as part of the Food and Wine Festival. This year it's "Picnic in the Park and all the Jazz" on 2nd and 3rd March.

It is being held at Point Park, Yarra's Edge.

The Festival is a family friendly place and the park will become a secure space with a stage, food and wine vendors and fancy toilet facilities, even a picket fence! There will be security in place to manage a safe event.

Examples of vendors; Hooks, Bistro Vite (Yarra's Edge restaurant that runs Jazz every Sunday, Howard Belling played there after Scotch last year), Mad Duck, Claypots Evening Star, Timboon Fine Ice Cream, Mission to Seafarers Farmers Market - all finest quality.

This year the Yarra's Edge Jazz Festival have jazz ensembles from Melbourne's finest musical secondary schools; Wesley, Parade College, St Leonards, Frankston High, Scotch College, Eltham High, plus Steve Sedergreen Trio on Saturday afternoon finishing off with a groove inc some of the coolest students - 4 bands a day.

Last year ensembles ranged from 4 - 12 musicians. Your choice for repertoire - the day is all about showcasing the kids. This isn't a Big Band focus rather a more casual jazz focused event - it's all about giving our kids an opportunity to show their stuff to a broader community.

The school bands are playing from 11am - 3pm every day, 45 mins per school, start on the hour, back-line provided.

The kids are amazing! Last year Scotch played the classics and nailed it - led by Howard Belling, followed by Wesley who played 80% original material written by the band - they were amazing. Wesley is led by Jack Howard; Hunters and Collectors and everyone else. He's about to start a tour with Rodriguez ending at Blues Fest where he starts a tour withThe Break.

There is also running a ferry service to/from Yarra's Edge running up the Yarra to Federation Square, stopping along the way at every Food and Wine Event. One of the ferries is the Elizabeth Anne, the Queen's barge.

There will be live jazz on the ferries performed by kids.
