TONIGHT (THURS) 7PM INTRO BY FATHER BOB.

We are very pleased to present a southside screening of this terrific documentary on Father Bob Maguire that will be introduced by Father Bob himself with all proceeds going to the The Father Bob Maguire Foundation.

”A fascinating insight into the idiosyncratic Catholic priest Father Bob Maguire whose take on religion is as entertaining as it is unconventional". Margaret Pomeranz, At The Movies.

The film will be preceded by a short film from 1982 illustrating the plight of a group of St Kilda street kids. It's a fascinating document and shows how little has changed for our marginalised young people.

Tickets $15 / $12 here, but selling fast.

NEWS FROM GEORGE:

It's been a tough week in St Kilda. First the locals lose the Stokehouse and now they look set to lose their cinema as we have been unable to secure a new lease from the new owners, who are (ironically called) developers. So, it's with a heavy heart to let you know that next weekend is our last.
There was a risk that this might happen but we really thought we could get a stay of at least another 12 months.
In any case, we have not held back with our programming and plan to go out on a high.
We are open every day from now until we close and we've got loads of terrific films on.
This weekend's fare are featured above and next week, a series of short films raising money for The Sea Shepherd, a very special and final Red Hot Shorts (short film showcase & a free event), Philomena, Frozen, Withnail & I, 100 Years of Charlie Chaplin with live band and, our very last film Peter Sellar's 1968 ripper, The Party.
A weekend celebrating cinema really, both new & old. Digital & film.
We can't thank you all enough for your support and encouragement to get this project off the ground and for coming along to help us build our momentum, which peaked last weekend with our busiest since we opened.
So we've got 15 films over the next 10 days, come and enjoy what we've got whilst we still have it.
