HEATHCOTE 2012
$36.00

Whenever I see an Australian Sangiovese I jump on it.

So jump I did and I must say in defense of the wine there is always bottle variation.

However I donít believe the wine was faulty in fact it was interesting until the second glass. I found that I could drink no more the acid in this wine was all most over powering, I put it down to youth, the wine was still young so I drank two glasses each day with lunch for the next three days.

With no joy the wine failed to impress, I could not find any trace of Sangiovese in this wine.
The hallmark aromatics of Sangiovese the dry sour cherry tannins or any minerals, sure it comes from Heathcote so you are not going to get Italy in the bottle I know that!

But I have drunk a lot of good Sangiovese over the years and in my opinion this Australian version did not make the grade.

However I will endeavor to put two or three bottles away and taste them over the next five years and see how they develop but at this stage in life I think they are too young to do the wine justice.
