  2. SOUNDWALK COLLECTIVE WITH JESSE PARIS SMITH FEATURING PATTI SMITH | New album ‘Killer Road’ out September 2 through Bella Union/[PIAS]

A shimmering ambient tone, an electronic underlay to the lulling chatter of crickets, makes way for the unmistakable voice of Patti Smith, quietly intoning, ominously, “The killer road is waiting for you / like a finger, pointing in the night.” Currently premiering on Pitchfork, the album’s opening and title track can be heard here, and is out now (via iTunes).Bella Union and [PIAS]/Mushroom are thrilled to announce the release of Killer Road, a collaborative project between Soundwalk Collective, Patti Smith and Jesse Paris Smith, on 2 September, 2016.

Behind the music and concept of Killer Road is international trio Soundwalk Collective – Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli and Kamran Sadeghi, plus Patti Smith’s

  5. SMADJ from Istanbul and Paris to Australia.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tunisian born, Parisian musician Jean-Pierre Smadja aka SMADJ who is currently on tour along the east coast of Australia performing with his signature Oud, both acoustic and electric.

With it’s origins in the Middle East the Oud is considered a sacred instrument and described as the King of Instruments. Legend has it that the Oud was invented by Lamech, the sixth grandson of Adam from the pharaonic era stretching back over 5,000 years.

Smadj grew up listening to Oriental, Brazilian, funk and folk ...

A.R.C.A or Australian Road Crew Association are holding a rare and long overdue reunion for 3 generations of roadcrew - 17 th April 2016.

Roadies from all over Oz will be coming together and reliving past events with a hug and a tear. It's also a good opportunity for us all to mourn the loss of fallen brothers side by side, we have lost too many.

Please hit the link below to find out how you can help roadies who's bodies are ailing after all them years of flogging themselves up and down stairs with black boxes on their shoulders, breath, and see what A.R.C.A , a non for profit, self funded organisation is doing to help.

    Hats off to ARCA ...
  7. Blues dudes Ivan Zar and Werner Martin

I had the opportunity of filming a live to air interview at 3CR between Blues journalist / presenter Werner Martin and visiting Blues legend Ivan Zar.

Ivan painted a picture through word and song about his experiences touring indigenous communities throughout the Kimberley over a 20 year period. Fascinating to say the least. And I will present that footage in the not too distant future for you viewing pleasure.

In the interim I would like to inform our readers about some gigs that are coming

  11. Solquemia perform at Vamos

Last Thursday, diners at Vamos Cocina+Bar+Musica in Little Bourke street, Melbourne were treated to a live performance by Solquemia, a flamenco duo featuring guitarist Alejandro Florez and dancer/percussionist Aya Kitaoji.

Alejandro Florez, who founded Solquemia in 2009, is a highly skilled musician and composer, whose guitar style embraces traditional Flamenco as well as Latin Jazz and Rumba.

Aya Kitaoji, principle dancer of Senes Flamenco, provided the highlight of each of three sets by dancing Soleares, Sevillanas and Alegria with superb grace and style, to Florez's virtuosic guitar. In between, she tucked up her lavish ...

In the 1950’s Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash spearheaded the pathway for Rock n Roll to enter the mainstream music industry. They achieved phenomenal success and also opened the flood gates of global appreciation for “Black Music”, Rhythm and Blues, Gospel, Soul and Country, music that is the heart and soul of Sun Records.

With this powerful mojo at play, it was Sun Records producer Sam Phillips and his fundamental experience, appreciation and vision that gave birth to Rock'n'Roll as we know it today.

This richly layered history is what propels Melbourne’s Sun Rising Rock'n'Roll Tribute Band to live and breath this music and strive for excellence. ...

  15. Rich Davies – Ghosts

Above a $2 shop in Coburg there’s a disused theatre that once hosted dance parties, musical revues and even a roller skating rink. The walls are covered in murals painted in the 1920s by returned servicemen from the First World War featuring images of Palestine and a different era.

Written by Rich Davies, Ghosts tells the story of a soldier whose body survived to return home, but whose spirit was taken on the battlefield.

Recorded and mixed by Myles Mumford
