It is January 2017 and Fairfax Studio in Melbourne’s Art Centre is full of Tim Finn, Split Enz and Crowded House fans. A little older and perhaps wiser.

The show is White Cloud: a Tim Finn, Ken Duncum and Sue Healey collaboration.

This production has circled the globe with success for quite a while. Like all great performances and musical scores it is received by this audience with reverence and love.

Tim Finn enters the stage confident, comfortable looking strong and very handsome underneath his signature shock of white curles. Also on stage are his guitar, ukulele, grand piano, wooden flute and his supremely talented accompanying guitarist who follows his ...

  3. Straight White Men

Beneath the surface, there is a lot being said in Straight White Men as it follows the most banal of Christmas’s spent with family, a situation or scenario that many would have either enjoyed or endured, and as such this scenario provides a relatable counter balance to an undescribed reality that exists outside of these walls.

The biggest drama to unfold within this narrative centres on the perceived notions of what professional success means to the individual, which is as much as a statement about society as anything else. It is what is left unsaid that fosters the strongest sense ill-feeling, skirting past issues of gender, religion, race and ...

  5. Ecco Homo – MIFF 2015

I had no idea what to expect from the premier screening of Ecco Homo at ACMI as part of the 2015 Melbourne International Film Festival.

Strongly feeling the six degrees of separation that bind us all, I was hooked from the very beginning of this touching, revealing, voyeuristic and transforming film.

Unlike many other viewers in that packed cinema, to my knowledge I had not personally encountered Peter Vanessa Troy Davies during his life, nor was I aware of being familiar with his work or influence. Yet, within minutes his direct influence on my life became clear, beaming into me from the screen.

  7. Rob Zabrecky performing at Melbourne Magic Festival June 29 – 11 July

The formidable and very funny Rob Zabrecky currently performing his show Turn on the Dark as part of The Melbourne Magic Festival 2015.

Rob Zabrecky is a seasoned and multi-talented artist in magic as well as being a producer, singer / songwriter, actor, auctioneer and blogger / host with Who’s Hoo.

His focus and timing are unfathomable.

Needless to say this show is a must see for anyone that likes to be totally absorbed when being entertained.

I had the extreme pleasure of filming a one on one interview with Rob Zabrecky after his show the other night. Be assured this will hit the screen next week ...

  8. Tom Stevens performing at Melbourne Magical Festival

I swear I’m starting to see The Melbourne Magical Festival as not only vastly entertaining but as spirit cleansing.

The other night I was part of an interactive audience with the very smooth and super intelligent Tom Stevens performing his mini miracles.

Mind expanding is a fitting description, because that is what happens when one is present ‘in the flesh’ for these supernatural performances.

Tom Stevens and yours truly bearing witness ...

  9. The Melbourne Magic Festival 2015

President of the Australian Institute of Magic, Lee Cohen starring in The Fairy Magic Show

From start to finish the2015 Melbourne Magic Festival Gala at Northcote Townhall had me smiling from ear to ear. It proved to be a wonder filled night of magic and joy that encapsulated the multi-generational audience on that night.

Having seenDynamo be Dynamo, over the years, I’ve acquired a taste for magic. This however, this was the first time that I was part of a live audience with so many multi-talented magicians at play.

The experience has left me very excited about the future of Magic as a premier form of live entertainment ...

  11. ‘TOTEM’ Cirque du Soleil Melbourne premiere

From the moment I was asked to cover opening night of Cirque du Soleil’s TOTEM at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse I could feel the pulse.

Every aspect of this dazzling event seemed organically synchronised, from driving into the well manned car park, through to the red carpet photo shoot, then comfortably moving into the magical Big Top tent, along with over 2,000 fellow wide eyed audience members; seemingly as one organism, an expansive collective soul. An energetic force field of maximum flow fuelling consciousness and connect, a most necessary ingredient for the death defying ...

Last night I attended the opening of a second season of Enzo Condello’s play Shakespeare and the Dark Lady of the Sonnets currently at Richmond Theatrette, 415 Church St., Richmond.

As I am not a devotee of the classics, nor familiar with most Shakespearean live theatre, I cannot critique the play on that merit. I can only share my experience.

From beginning to end I was literally overwhelmed by exuberance.

The theatre itself is an appealing space on entry, inviting one to be part of an audience. The spacious stage was designed in a clean and creative style that effectively supported each scene. The background music was subtle and well timed to enhance the mood ...

Regardless of whether you are a die hard fan or not, most people in the western world and beyond have been touched by the music of
    Cat Stevens.

It is said that in this country one in four people in the seventies and eighties had a Cat Stevens album in their collection. Even though I was one of the other three only because I wasn’t a collector I loved his music and saw him as a spunk.

When he changed his name and adopted a religion I thought it a little desperate and strange. But that was before I became desperate and strange. He then morphed into someone else and seemingly disappeared. Regardless, I have been hearing his songs and music through the communal airways every ...

The amazing and beautiful Mama Alto as Billy Holiday.

The smoldering sensuality of Billy Holliday is brought to life by the incredibly talented Mama Alto accompanied by multi-award winning musical director Warren Wills in An Audience with Billy Holiday currently playing at Chapel off Chapel.

Opening night saw a full house where the mood and magic of a by gone era manifested, holding us spell bound.

Mama Alto’s beautiful and haunting voice in story and song conjures images and feelings for an artist whose struggles in life and god given talent produced an unprecedented rich and vast reverberating legacy.

A grand piano, a stool. a mic stand, great sound,
