CHAMPION CLUBS TO FACE OFF
FOR STATES MOST COVETED TITLE

NSW Elite Sides to Contest Inaugural Champions League Title
Described by many of the international legends of the game of bowls as the best domestic competition in the world, the event formerly known as the NSW Premier League is set for an exciting ‘facelift’ and will continue under the new banner, ‘CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LAWN BOWLS NSW’.

After 1
3 successive seasons known as the NSW Premier League, the State’s governing body, ‘Bowls NSW’, has amicably handed over the control and running of the inter-club blue ribbon event to the eight participating sides.

This decision will assist the competition to continue to prosper at an even higher level and give it greater flexibility with relation to new rules and initiatives to keep the tournament fresh and exciting for both the players and spectators.

The Champions League NSW Controlling Body is excited about two decisions that are sure to create massive talk and excitement in the sport. Firstly, that Australia’s top women can now be selected in participating teams and now compete on a level playing field against the world’s best male players.

Secondly, the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) has eagerly grabbed the last available license to become the 8th and final team in the Champions League. The NSWIS squad includes the top male and female U25 representatives across the state. The Champions League will provide this development team along with their head coach, former Commonwealth Games representative, Gary Willis, with the ideal platform to test their skills and ability at a supreme almost international like level.

The Champions League NSW will no doubt continue to be the toughest and most hard fought competition throughout Australia. Already, with preparations still taking shape, the country’s most elite players are jockeying for positions, in order to land one of the four coveted import positions available to all participating sides.

One of the key improvements to the competition has been an emphasis on quicker matches and an exciting tweak to the scoring system. No longer will there be any ‘dead’ ends, with the re-spot rule being employed to ensure all games finish quicker and roughly the same time. Also, an exciting improvement with the overall allocation of points for each match with a variation on the current points allocation for a victory. Champions League has now sought to add clarity to lawn bowls scoring by aligning themselves with the widely understood tennis mantra of ‘Game, Set & Match’.

Sides will now earn themselves nine (9) points for an overall (63 ends) master-board victory— known as a ‘MATCH’. In addition, the 21 ends played on each of the three rinks will be known as a ‘SET’. Within every set, each seven-ends will constitute one ‘GAME’. Hence, Champions League Lawn Bowls NSW will soon become synonymous with the adage, ‘Game, Set & Match’!

Individual rinks will have the opportunity to get one point for their side if they score more shots during one of the seven end ‘games’. Three lots of 7-end games will equal one 21-end set. Three 21-end sets will equal the 63-end match.

The eight inaugural sides who will be vying for the Champions League NSW title include: -

NSWIS, Belrose, Merrylands, Mount Lewis, Roselands, The Hills, Towradgi Park and Warilla.

Between them all the amount of State, Australian, World and Commonwealth Champions plus State and International representatives is staggering!

The Champions League NSW will continue to provide the most exciting atmosphere and level of bowls seen on a regular basis. Spectators, including both bowlers and non-bowlers will continue to have the opportunity to watch some of the world’s best bowlers in action every week throughout late August to early October.

The draw for the first ever Champions League Lawn Bowls NSW will be available to the public by the end of June and further details are available at
