Brrrrrrr......winter is here!

It is lovely to see the sunny days but it still cold! Check out our Wine of the Week for perfect drinking on one of these cold nights.

Even though it is cold, do try and venture out on Friday evenings for our wine tastings. We have Doug Neal, the irrepressible winemaker from Paradise IV with his new wine this Friday. Many more exciting ones for the week's following.

Wine of The Week

Pfeiffer Classic Topaque

What is Topaque???? Within the last year, Rutherglen's great Tokays have had to change their name to Topaque. This is to respect the region in Hungary with a similar sounding name. Even the French and the Italians had to change some of their wine labelling for the same reason!

Pfeiffer's always make great Topaque. With a small collection of gold medals and trophies (Trophies: 2009 Brisbane Fine Wine Show, 2006 Wagga Wagga Wine Show;Gold Medals: 2011 Victorian Wines Show, 2009 Brisbane Fine Wine Show, 2006 Wagga Wagga Wine Show and Top 100 in the WORLD Winter 2004 US Wine and Spirit Magazine and Top 100 Wines 2010 Australian Wine Vintages) and a couple of dozen Silver and Bronze medals to prove it.
Jen Pfeiffer has now taken over most of the wine making responsibilities from her father, Chris, who has left her some great blending material to make this and their other stunning fortified wines. Big shoes to fill as her father was awarded an OAM but she is completely capable.
Pfeiffer Classic Topaque is rich and intense yet clean and balanced. Imagine liquid toffee with hints of tea and honey. A perfect drink for one of the cold nights.

Only $29.95 per bottle

All our events are listed in our website as well as a carefully selected range or our fine wines.

Wine tastings, wine courses and other events

Marrabool – the new release from Paradise IV
20 July 2012 5:00 – 8:00pm
Doug Neal is gaining super reviews with all his elegant, cool climate wines from Geelong. His newest wine – a classic Shiraz Cabernet blend called Marrabool (after the old name of the river at the bottom of the vineyard) is just released! Doug will be in our Fine Wine Room to show off this and the rest of his wines. A tasting not to be missed! Free.

Cosmo tasting
Friday 27 July 2012 5:00 – 8:00pm
Most of our Pinot Noir loving customers know of our great drinking (and at an excellently priced) Cosmo Pinot Noir from the Gippsland Lakes. But winemaker Lindsay Corby does make more than just Pinot Noir! He takes grapes from carefully selected vineyards throughout the best wine regions in Victoria to produce a cosmopolitan variety of wines. Lindsay will be with us in our Fine Wine Room – come and meet him and taste his “cosmo” range of wines. Free.

Domaine de Nizas
17 August 2012 5:00 – 8:00pm
We have been lucky enough to secure some bargain drinking for the south of France.
Nizas, a small village in the Herault Valley just eight kms north of Pézenas, where Molière, the famous 17th century French playwright lived. The Mediterranean climate with low rainfall and dry, warm summers are perfect for the Syrah (Shiraz) and other grape varieties planted there.
John Goelet found this site, already planted, in 1998. His family history in wine along with his experience in Australia and the US (Taltarni, Clos du Val) together with winemaker Bernard Meunier’s expertise is producing some great drinking. But don’t take our word for it. Come and taste the Syrah dominant red, a white from Roussanne, Vermentino and Viognier and an extreme bargain from 60 year-old Carignan vines. All for under $20 per bottle! Free.
