Foster e Rocco Fiano 2011 and Amherst Winery masterclass - a vertical tasting

Foster e Rocco Fiano 2011
Every so often a wine appear that cannot be missed. Foster e Rocco Fiano 2011 is one of them. Those who got to our tasting with Adam Foster in the shop last week, had the chance to taste it. For those who missed this pre-release tasting, you can still buy the wine. In fact we are the only wine shop that you can get it, at present! See more in the rest of the email.

Amherst Winery masterclass - A vertical tasting
Amherst Winery is a small, premium family owned winery. They do not go in the big profile but their wines consistently win awards and gain great reviews. James Halliday has given them as a 5-star rating for the last two years. Amherst is small! - only 10 acres, 60% is planted to Shiraz, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Chardonnay. Their two premium wines "Dunn's Paddock" Shiraz and "Chinese Gardens" Cabernet Sauvignon are named after some the rich history on which the vineyard is planted. Samuel Dunn was an escaped convict turned good, who cultivated the land in the early 1850s, and Chinese Garden is where a Chinese market gardener provided food to the gold- diggers of the area.
The tasting will be a vertical of both of these wines with Luke Jones - who has taken over the wine making responsibilities (and been involved in the vineyard since his youth - his parents planted it.) A tasting not to be missed! How often can one taste young and old wines side by side, all stored at the winery itself. Wine of the Week

Foster e Rocco Fiano 2011

Just, just just released! And looking like a bright young alive thing too!

Fiano is an old grape dating back to the Roman and possibly Greek days of viticulture in the hills behind Naples (Campagna). Following the success of Italian red grape varieties in Australia, Fiano is one of the Italian white varieties that is planted. As it is new to Australia, there seems to be a fair bit on experimentation in wine making with many different styles of wine being made. So it is hard to say whether there is any typicity in the Foster e Rocco Fiano.
What must be said is that it is a damn good drink! It tastes like it is unwooded but does see a small proportion of new oak for a short period. The wine has absorbed the flavor and left a lovely textural mouthfeel. The bright floral and citrus fruit flavours are a delight. The beautiful freshness is due to the tangy acid. It makes the wine look so alive. This wine is certainly gluggable!
Normal retail is $29.95 but we have it for $26.95 per bottle or cheaper by the six or 12 bottles.
