Welcome to the March edition of The View.

Vintage is in full swing at the winery and we’ve started crushing and fermenting some of our very best fruit from local vineyards. This month, Senior Red Winemaker, Steve Frost, brings us up to date with the red intake from our South Australian wine regions.

While our winemaking and vintage teams are hard at work during the busiest month of the year, we’d like to congratulate them for some outstanding trophy results for our White Label Piccadilly Chardonnay 2012 (http://www.wolfblasswines.com/en/our-wines/white-label/piccadilly-valley-chardonnay.aspx?utm_campaign=WOL_20140319_March&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&elq=1eb840351f3e4d9fafb9af7d0201e0b2&elqCampaignId=789) and Red Label Shiraz Grenache 2013 (http://app.wine.tweglobal.com/e/er?utm_campaign=WOL_20140319_March&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&s=2596&lid=2178&elq=1eb840351f3e4d9fafb9af7d0201e0b2) at the recent Sydney Royal Wine Show.

In this edition, we also welcome the newest member of our winemaking team, John Ashwell, with a winemaker Q & A, and we celebrate the simple perfection of seasonal pears with a mouthwatering dessert recipe for Poached Pears with Passionfruit Syrup.

2014 Macquarie Group Sydney Royal Wine Show Winners

Congratulations to our winemaking and viticulture teams for an outstanding result at the 2014 Macquarie Group Sydney Royal Wine Show. Wolf Blass White Label Piccadilly Chardonnay 2012 (http://app.wine.tweglobal.com/e/er?utm_campaign=WOL_20140319_March&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua&s=2596&lid=2177&elq=1eb840351f3e4d9fafb9af7d0201e0b2) was awarded a gold medal and two trophies - for Best Chardonnay Trophy at and Best White Wine. This follows hot on the heels of being awarded the Best Chardonnay Trophy at the prestigious Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition in November last year.

The 2014 vintage is proving to be unique in its own special way, similar to, but not quite the same as some years of the past, and very different to just as many others. So far it has thrown up challenges on many fronts, but these are challenges we all relish. We've experienced a cool and windy flowering period and record-breaking heat waves, broken by a record rain event with a long cool spell to follow. We're definitely going to deliver wines with their own special personality.
