Great wines popping up daily

This year is seeing the normal collection of new releases. our hopes have not been too high for the 2011 vintage for wines from the southern part of Victoria but happily to report, there are some excellent wines - particularly whites. It has been a challenging year for the winemakers but some have been remarkably successful.
Pinot Noirs are amongst the varieties that we have had to choose very carefully. Often the wines have lacked intensity leaving them thin and acidic. One that is brilliant is the Paradigm Hill l'ami sage Pinot Noir. True Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir with an excellent level of fruit intensity and structure. It may not age as well as the previous vintages but for drinking now and over the next couple of years - brilliant!
The Pizzini Whitefields Pinot Grigio 2011 is a brilliant wine from this vintage. Imagine the structure of a light White Burgundy but with Pinot Grigio flavours. A stunningly elegant minerally wine. (See also Wines of the Week).

Over the year, we will be showcasing many great wines in our regular Friday night tastings. Looking forward to seeing you at them.

South America has made wines for many centuries but in recent decades there has been a seismic increase in their quality with some beauties making their way to Australian shores.
Although the common French grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are growing successfully, it is the lesser-known grape varieties including Carménère from Chile, Malbec from Argentina and Tannat from Uruguay, which have really shone.
We have chosen a great selection of these varieties plus more from throughout Argentina, Chile and Uruguay for this start of Autumn tasting. All will be at super special prices for the tasting. Free.

Fratelli Wines – an unknown gem (http://winebins.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6ebde3cc2c6b4225a19a717c7&id=f35be9daae&e=0b0627c805)
Three Italian brothers who grew up in the cane fields of Queensland loved working the land but decided to have a change of what they were working with on the land. Fratelli means “brothers” in Italian so this, very appropriately, became the name of their wines.
The oldest brother Andrew Santarossa became a winemaker and, adopting the old world principle of ‘terroir’, Fratelli sources fruit from regions throughout Victoria that are best suited to each variety.
Their Italian heritage has lead them towards Italian varietals such as Pinot Gris, Moscato and Primitivo as well as the international varieties including Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz.

Altamont Wine studio is the brainchild of Brendon Keys. His aim is to make the most awesome wine possible; the idea revolves around using only small but very high quality batches of Adelaide Hills fruit. Named as one of James Halliday’s Ten Dark Horses in his 2013 Wine Compendium, these wines are seriously interesting and worthwhile coming to taste.
Brett Matthews will here to show you the Altamont Sauvignon Blanc 2012 and the Altamont Montepulciano 2011. Free.
